Unit 1: Introduction

It also explores health promotion and the evolving expectations of service users.
Unit 2: Research and Statistics
Unit 3: Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Health Conditions
This unit explores the development and utilisation of classification systems (DSM-IV and ICD) for mental health disorders. It also covers the assessment of mental health conditions in various contexts, such as primary and secondary care, and examines the perspectives of healthcare professionals and mental health workers in the processes of diagnosing and assessing within these settings.
Unit 4: Mental Health Conditions
This unit highlights key mental health conditions, exploring their anatomy and physiology, along with physical, psychological, and alternative therapies. Examples include schizophrenia, depression, personality disorders, learning disabilities, and minor mental health disorders.
Unit 5: Social Inclusion
This unit delves into the link between social exclusion and mental illness, exploring barriers to social inclusion at community and societal levels. It addresses stigma, marginal groups, and their impact on social inclusion. The discussion includes research and person-centred approaches, along with insights into volunteer, partnership, and training programs, work placements, national service frameworks, and skills development for inclusive practices.
Unit 6: Our Ageing Society
This unit delves into the physiology of ageing, exploring statistical evidence for increased life expectancy and its societal implications. It discusses service provision for older individuals with mental health issues, incorporating legislation to prevent discrimination and promote equal access to services. Key conditions covered include dementia, depression in the elderly, and issues of bereavement, loss, and loneliness. The unit also touches on residential care, capacity and consent, and addresses NSF standards for mental health care in older adults.
Unit 7: Care Services and Support
This unit explores current UK legislation related to mental health care service provision, covering legislation and policy, eligibility criteria, meeting mental health care needs, NSF standards, service user involvement, and care choices.
Unit 8: The Community Mental Health Care Team (CMHT)
