Level 3 Personal Training + Sports Coaching Diploma

Students will be initially introduced to the role of a personal trainer/ coach in the first unit. Then, you will be introduced to the anatomy and physiology of the body to understand how the body responds to exercise. In later units, the course will cover nutrition and specialised groups that as a trainer you may come across like young participants and older people. This will also be complimented with a unit on how to develop a business.
Included within the course will be a range of Independent Study Activities and case studies designed to encourage students to develop their knowledge and underpin their understanding of the subject.

Level 3 Personal Training + Sports Coaching Diploma Entry Requirements
All students must be 16 years of age and above to enrol on our Level 3 Personal Training + Sports Coaching Diploma course.
Level 3 Diploma courses require a minimum prior learning to GCSE standard in order that students can manage their studies and the assumed knowledge within course content.

Unit 1: Becoming a Personal Trainer or Sports Coach
This unit explores the role of a personal trainer or coach, emphasising professionalism, certification, and insurance. It includes activities to assess performance, such as evaluating communication skills, and provides valuable information on starting a career as a personal trainer.
Unit 2: Knowing About Anatomy and Physiology
This unit focuses on understanding how the body responds to exercise, covering structures and functions of joints, muscles, and tendons. It explores core stability, the effects of exercise on the heart, circulatory and respiratory systems, and the impact of smoking on respiratory health. Essential knowledge for personal trainers helping clients with weight loss or strength training goals.
Unit 3: Knowing About Nutrition
This unit guides personal trainers in advising clients on nutrition for fitness goals. It covers the digestive system, its processes, and common problems. Emphasising nutrition, it highlights coaching clients on incorporating carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The unit also discusses the significance of maintaining diet and nutrition journals.
Unit 4: Knowing Your Clients
This course section emphasises the importance of gathering vital client information before starting the exercise. The consultation process is crucial for personal trainers to understand clients, tailor exercise programs based on their fitness levels, goals, and preferences, and ensure they are medically fit for exercise. It covers the initial consultation, the significance of fitness assessments and medical screening, and practical aspects like measuring blood pressure, heart rate, body composition, and conducting cardiovascular and flexibility testing.
Unit 5: Knowing About Exercising
This section covers planning an exercise program based on client information. It explores various training methods, locations, and types, emphasising the importance of aerobic training for cardiovascular fitness. The unit introduces training zones, specifically heart rate zones, ensuring clients work at the right intensity. It touches on exercise frequency based on fitness levels. Additionally, the unit delves into resistance training, discussing the pros and cons of free weights and machine weights. The section concludes by highlighting the importance of progression, and workout adjustments, and includes information on long-distance running.
Unit 6: Training Young People
This unit explores and explains the unique workout requirements when training or coaching young people, considering various factors.
Unit 7: Training Groups with Particular Requirements
Unit seven prepares you for working with specific client needs, focusing on women and older adults. It delves into the female triad, exploring signs and symptoms, and provides exercise programs for pregnant women. The unit also emphasises the benefits of strength training and aerobic exercise for older individuals.
Unit 8: Advising About Weight Management
This unit addresses weight loss strategies, covering various diets to enable personal trainers to offer informed advice. It explores the impact of diets on the body, examines food and fitness diaries, provides weight gain tips, and discusses issues related to disordered eating and obesity.
Unit 9: Advising About Fluid Management
This unit discusses the effects of dehydration and emphasises the importance of staying hydrated throughout the exercise process. It covers the functions of water and sports drinks, as well as addresses alcohol consumption and responsible drinking.
Unit 10: Building and Maintaining a Successful Personal Training Business
The final unit focuses on crafting a business and marketing plan for your personal training business. It covers crucial legal aspects like client insurance and accident reporting. Additionally, it provides insights on creating a business image, addressing financial aspects such as client charges, invoicing, taxes, client retention, and staffing.
