Health Coaching Short Course
This course is thoughtfully structured into ten manageable units, each exploring key aspects of the field.
Health Coaching Short Course Diploma Entry Requirements:
All students must be 16 years of age and above to enter into our Health Coaching Short Course Diploma (Level 3).
Short Course Diploma courses require a minimum prior learning to GCSE standard in order that students can manage their studies and the assumed knowledge within course content.
Study Hours
200 hours in total. Or 20 hours per week over 10 weeks.
Assessment
Written assessment at the end of each unit of study.

Progression
This coaching Short Course Diploma course can be used to gain entry to a Level 4 Diploma or higher.
Course Content
Unit 1: What is health?
The initial module explores diverse perspectives on health definitions. It delves into personal and societal expectations regarding health, considering their implications for wellbeing and health coaching. The student will also explore growth, development, and psychological aspects of health relevant to the coaching context.
Unit 2: Health promotion in context with health coaching
In this module, students explore the principles of health promotion in the UK, encompassing legislation, strategies, and frameworks that define the parameters of care and service delivery. The role, scope, and client base of the health coach are also taken into consideration.
Unit 3: Health and disease in context with health coaching
To effectively coach health, students must possess a fundamental grasp of health concepts, disease, cause and effect, and prevention strategies. This module provides students with insights into these aspects in the context of health coaching.
Unit 4: The nature and scope of health coaching
This module examines the scope of health coaching and outlines the core skills, approaches, models and techniques within this remit.
Unit 5: Communication and health coaching
Similar to various coaching courses, effective communication is a crucial element of the process. In this module, students thoroughly explore communication skills, understanding how to communicate and contextualizing these skills within the coaching environment.
Unit 6: Social issues and health coaching
Health is not only a personal concern but also a social issue. In this module, we explore social factors such as lifestyle, relationships, gender, cultural considerations, and demographics pertinent to the coaching context.
Unit 7: Coaching in professional healthcare situations
This module examines the role of the health coach in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, care homes, and within management or human resource teams focused on professional development.
Unit 8: Health coaching in public sector and private practice
Health coaching in the public sector demands an understanding of public health issues, legislation, and current service provisions. Conversely, health coaching in the private sector involves different knowledge requirements, which will be explored in this module
Unit 9: Ethical considerations, legislation and responsibilities
This module addresses concerns like confidentiality, data protection, professional codes of conduct, legislation pertinent to health coaching, and the legal and professional responsibilities of the health coach.
Unit 10: Consolidation, programme design and strategies
The concluding module will provide a concise summary of the course and offer examples of program design. Additionally, it will include templates that can be customised for personal use by students.
